- Copyrights – It used to be that one had to renew a books copyright in its 28th year, this allowed books to go into the public domain. These days copyrights last forever and ever (okay, not quite that long, but close).
- Patents – The pace of innovation, especially in IT, makes the length of patent grants currently ridiculous and cumbersome, retarding innovation.
